Guidelines for Curbside Garbage Service

St. Johns County (Unincorporated Residents Only): Your recycling is getting an upgrade starting July 6! 
New wheeled carts will be delivered to residents' curbs starting June 1st through July 3rd. Residents can start using the new wheeled cart on or after July 6th. Your recycling service day will remain the same. Starting July 6th, please leave your 18-gallon recycling bins at your curb for collection on your regularly scheduled service day.

Curbside garbage service

  • Pickup once per week.
  • Place your garage cans curbside by 6:00 a.m. of your scheduled garbage collection day.
  • Defined as all kitchen and food waste, and all animal or vegetable waste that is attendant with or results from the storage, preparation, cooking or handling of food materials.
  • No pickup holidays: Thanksgiving and Christmas. If a holiday coincides with your regularly scheduled collection day, Advanced Disposal will provide advance written notice to each customer concerning any alternate collection days via the local newspaper.

Curbside yard waste service

  • Pickup once per week.
  • Defined as vegetative matter resulting from landscaping and yard maintenance and beautification projects, such as leaves, grass cuttings, palm fronds, shrubbery and tree trimmings.

Curbside bulk items collection

  • Residents should call Advanced Disposal at 904-827-1005 to arrange a pickup of large bulk items and white goods.
  • Bulky items are large items of residential waste that will not fit in the garbage receptacle and include, but are not limited to: toilets, sinks, bicycles, mattresses, carpet, fencing, large household furnishings, car and boat seats, and steering wheels and other interior car and boat components,
  • Bulky items DO NOT include engines, tires, boats or vehicle bodies.
  • White goods are discarded refrigerators, ranges, water heaters, freezers and other similar large, domestic and commercial appliances.

Curbside recycling service (until July 3rd - see info below for upgrades effective July 6) 

  • Pickup once per week.
  • EXPANDED LIST of acceptable recyclable items include newspaper, metal and aluminum containers, corrugated cardboard, plastic containers labeled #1-#7, glass bottles and jars (green, brown and clear), pill bottles, water bottles, metal and aluminum cans, magazines, catalogs, telephone books, brown paper bags, office paper, copy paper, shredded paper in paper bag, file folders, file or packing boxes, junk mail, cereal boxes and brown or gray fiber packages (soda cartons, dry food packages, etc.)

Curbside Recycling Collection

  • Recyclables must be placed curbside prior to 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
  • Your collection day will remain the same.
  • Place all recyclables in the provided cart – no sorting is necessary.
  • All recyclables must be placed in the cart for collection.

Cart Placement

  • Place cart within 3 feet of the curb with handle facing toward the residential unit and away from the street.
  • Place cart at least 3 feet away from all other objects such as mailbox, car, garbage container, etc.

Mail, office and school
Newspapers and inserts
Magazines and catalogs
Paperback books
Telephone books
Shredded paper
Brown paper bags
Paperboard boxes – cereal
Corrugated cardboard – flattened and cut in 2' by 3' pieces or smaller

Cartons
Food and beverage cartons including: milk cartons, creamer, juice boxes, soup and tofu boxes

Metal
Aluminum cans
Aluminum baking tins
Steel food cans (labels do not need to be removed)

Plastic
Plastic food containers
Beverage containers
Detergent bottles
Cleaning containers
All plastics labeled #1-7 (labels do not need to be removed)

Glass
Brown, clear and green glass bottles and jars (labels do not need to be removed). Please no broken glass.

Needles and other medical waste

Styrofoam
Mirrors and window panes
Batteries
Liquids
Yard waste
Christmas lights
Fireworks
Animals
Tires
Pizza boxes
Wire

Hangers
Hazardous waste

Holiday Schedule

There will be no pickup on the following holiday:
New Year's Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day

Routes will be delayed by one day the rest of the week after a holiday.
For example, if a holiday is on Tuesday and your service day is Wednesday, you will be collected on Thursday. Friday collection will be serviced on Saturday.
