May 2018 Update
During a routine daily inspection, unusal settlement was observed in the working area. To comply with our landfill operating procedures and to adhere to our safety standards and protocols, we have stopped accepting waste in the working area of the landfill. We remain in compliance with the required Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) regulations identified in our permit but have decided to take this precautionary action.
We are currently operating on a limited capacity and will continue to operate the convenience center and the acceptance of construction and demolition waste between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:30PM.
We expect to resume normal operations on Monday, May 21, 2018.
Pursuant to Section 2.5 of the MOU, Eagle Point Landfill is continuing Construction of Cell 15, as to provide sufficient air space for the County’s solid waste needs. The facility is currently installing the compacted clay protective liner system as approved by the Georgia EPD. During this phase of construction, an additional Storm Water Sediment Basin has been constructed to treat storm water runoff associated with this new Solid Waste Disposal Cell. Finally, additional Ground Water and Methane Monitoring locations will be installed prior to waste acceptance into Cell 15. These additional monitoring locations are EPD-approved in the Eagle Point Landfill Environmental Monitoring Plan.
Other Construction and Operations Updates
Eagle Point Landfill has completed the engineering design for the County’s Vehicle Inspection Lane, as required under Section 2.3.3 of the MOU. This area will be available for use by the Forsyth County Code Enforcement and/or Sheriff’s Office to monitor all vehicles entering/exiting the facility to validate County Code compliance.
Eagle Point Landfill has completed an upgrade to the Tire Wash system (enlarged capacity) to minimize tracking of sediment off-site on Old Federal Road. The Pre-Wash Bird Bath Plan Designs are nearing completion as additional Best Management Practices to further promote sediment controls on the landfill property.
Eagle Point Landfill continues to expand the existing Gas Collection and Control System (GCCS) with the addition of 20 new collection wells. This expansion will aid in mitigating off-site odors through the collection and destruction of landfill gases. Eagle Point Landfill continues to operate the Air Misting Curtain and Portable Misting Systems at the facility per Section 2.7 of the MOU.
