Advanced Disposal, an integrated environmental services company, honored top employees s at the company’s third annual employee of the year awards celebration in Orlando, Fla.

Sixty employee nominees and their guests attended the event held at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort, where they enjoyed a luau show and traditional Hawaiian dinner. All nominees were presented with a plaque, and winners received glass awards recognizing the tremendous accomplishment.

Lori Rakvin, Brockway, Pa.: 2013 Administrative/Clerical Employee of the Year

Lori Rakvin is an office manager for the Advanced Disposal – Brockway, Pa. location. She is an excellent leader and has ensured that all of the offices she manages have consistently been at the top of the rating scale for their customer care program. Lori also acts as billing manager, benefits coordinator and handles all requirements in a timely and professional manner.

“Lori is a top-notch performer who will never let Advanced Disposal down. She is always giving of herself and is very supportive of her team,” said Advanced Disposal General Manager Mark VanWeelden.

 

Jimmy Gidley, Montgomery, Ala.: 2013 Operations Employee of the Year

Jimmy Gidley, Montgomery, Ala.: 2013 Employee of the Year

Jimmy Gidley is a front load driver for Advanced Disposal – Montgomery, Ala. location. He began his career in the container shop repairing, welding and painting containers before he became a driver. He is a winner of the Regional and International Truck Rodeo Competition in the front load category in 1996 and was also the recipient of the Nationwide Truck Driver of the Year award in 2005.

“Jimmy picks up 1,400 yards a day and knows most of his customers by name,” said Advanced Disposal General Manager Billy Porter. “You will not find an employee with a better attitude. He is always willing to help someone in need.”

 

Jerry Blakeney, Mobile, Ala.: 2013 Good Samaritan of the Year

Jerry Blakeney is a roll-off driver for Advanced Disposal – Mobile, Ala. Jerry was transporting a load of material to Turkey Trot Landfill when he noticed a neighbor had fallen in their yard and couldn’t get up. Jerry safely pulled his truck over and helped the neighbor get to his feet and back into his wheelchair. After leaving the landfill, Jerry stopped back by the neighbor’s house to check on him. Jerry’s actions resulted in his nomination for Good Samaritan of the Year.

“Jerry is an outstanding and caring person who is most deserving of this award. He goes above and beyond what is expected of him and is always helping others,” said Advanced Disposal District Manager Gerald Greene.

 

Jason Johnson, Muskego, Wis.: 2013 Municipal Marketer of the Year

Jason Johnson is a municipal marketing and government affairs manager for Advanced Disposal – Muskego, Wis. He demonstrates his ability to generate new revenue for the company by bringing on new accounts while at the same time increasing the revenue growth in existing accounts. He was selected for municipal marketer of the year because he won five new contracts in 2013 worth more than $2 million in annual revenue and renewed 22 of our 23 expiring contracts.

“Jason brings an air of enthusiasm to municipal marketing which permeates throughout the divisions. He is optimistic while still being realistic and is a great employee,” said Advanced Disposal Regional Municipal Marketing Manager Bob Pfister.

 

Jennifer Rhodes, State College, Pa.: 2013 Salesperson of the Year

Jennifer Rhodes is a sales representative for Advanced Disposal – State College, Pa. She has represented Advanced Disposal for three years with consistent sales results and outstanding returns in all lines of business. She is a results-driven competitor and also enjoys volunteering at a local school for troubled youth.

“Jennifer is an individual with the highest degree of personal integrity, determination and talent. She works tirelessly and is an outstanding team player,” said Advanced Disposal Region Sales Manager Jay Katz.

 

Amy Asplund, Roswell, Ga.: 2013 Chairman’s Award

Amy Asplund is a region controller for Advanced Disposal’s south region who has been a vital team member since 2006. She took the helm of our Atlanta accounting department and has been an integral player in developing it into one of our largest, most integrated and successful marketplaces in the company!

“Amy is an incredible leader and role model,” said Advanced Disposal Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Charlie Appleby. “Her leadership, work ethic and dedication are second to none.  Combined with her entrepreneurial spirit, she represents the standard for all to follow.”
