PONTE VEDRA, Fla.
Advanced Disposal’s Chief Marketing Officer Mary O’Brien was recently named a Woman of Influence for her professional accolades as a woman in the male-dominated environmental services industry as well as for her dedication to various community initiatives.
The Jacksonville Business Journal received more than 100 nominations which were scored using numerical values. O’Brien was one of 24 Women of Influence honorees based upon her ability to face challenges and overcome obstacles in the waste business which is highly competitive in a rough and tumble world of garbage, trucks, politics, logistics and people. O’Brien is one of the industry’s major players who stands out from high atop the trash pile and is a woman in a man’s world who has surpassed all previous company sales and marketing milestones.
“I never thought I would grow up to become a garbage lady, but it has been a career of a lifetime,” says O’Brien. “Every day, I am inspired by the hard working men and women of Advanced Disposal and all those in the environmental services industry, and it is my goal to build admiration and respect for these environmental heroes who leave our communities clean and green.”
O’Brien oversees all marketing efforts for Advanced Disposal and is responsible for corporate branding, municipal market development, advertising, government relations and public relations. O’Brien also incorporates digital marketing, new market research, development and entry strategy, database management, state and local permitting, volume growth and industry networking in her job duties. Notably, O’Brien is the only female C-Suite executive in the top five solid waste business entities in the U.S.
When not leading Advanced Disposal to exponential growth, she serves her community as a St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce Board Member, a Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Trustee and as an environmental committee member and volunteering for equestrian charities.
