Advanced Disposal Helps World Changers by Donating 17 Dumpsters for Home Renovations
World Changers Volunteers Renovate Nassau County Homes of Senior Citizens
Callahan, FL
Jul 16, 2015

Advanced Disposal, an integrated environmental services company, is proud to support World Changers of Nassau County with the donation of 17 roll-off containers for Nassau residents’ home renovations.

Starting July 13 until July 18 between the hours of 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., more than 230 World Changers volunteers will tackle approximately 27 projects throughout Fernandina Beach and Nassau County, including home renovations, beach cleanup and work on the Egans Creek Greenway. Tasks include painting houses, repairing roofs, siding, windows and doors, and property maintenance. All of the projects are aimed at improving substandard housing issues affecting senior citizens who are clients of the Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA).

“Nearly 20 percent of the population in Nassau County is 65 years of age or older,” said NCCOA Executive Director Janice Ancrum. “Many of these seniors don’t have the resources to maintain their homes, so the improvements made by the World Changers volunteers will increase safety and improve the quality of life for our clients.”

Advanced Disposal’s donation adds to the list of items provided through local and civic donations to cover the project expenses and needs. In addition, volunteers from 23 local churches of all denominations will deliver lunch daily for the teams at each work site.

“For many years, I’ve been part of World Changers’ projects throughout the United States,” said volunteer and project spearhead Suellen Rodeffer. “I knew if we brought them to our community we would receive tremendous support and we have – from corporations like Advanced Disposal, local businesses and civic groups, as well as our churches. We all feel so blessed by this amazing opportunity to improve the lives of senior citizens in Nassau County.”

The majority of the World Changers workforce are students from Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, and most have been a part of construction projects like these for several years. In addition, seasoned volunteers like Bobby Peebles have donated their talents and time.

“This is a dream come true for me,” says Peebles. “I've been doing this for a long time and hoped I could continue to do this into my eighties. I turned 80 last year."

Founded in 1974 by local citizens, the Council on Aging of Nassau County, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, aims to maintain and enrich the lives of older persons in Nassau County. COA is a resource for education, information, referral, counseling and general assistance, and is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for elders and persons with disabilities through advocacy and services .

World Changers exists to serve churches in their mission of making disciples by providing missions experiences that develop the heart of students for serving others and sharing the gospel so they can change the city and change the world.
