Star Ridge Landfill is a 770 acres facility located in Moody, Alabama, just east of Birmingham. Of its 770 acres, 308 acres are permitted for disposal purposes. Star Ridge Landfill’s service area includes the entire State of Alabama. Currently over 37 million cubic yards of air space is available and with its daily volume of approximately 1,100 tons per day there are over 132 years of site life remaining. In addition to accepting MSW, Star Ridge Landfills accepts Special Waste and also offers solidification to its customers. Star Ridge Landfill delivers approximately 900 cubic feet per minute (CFM) of landfill gas via a 6.5-mile pipeline to Acme Brick, which utilizes the gas as a fuel for their kiln to manufacture brick. This site was originally used a coal mine. Because of this, the landfill is required to construct a compost liner consisting of both clay and 2 layer of 60 mil. geomembrane. In November, Star Ridge Landfill was presented by the Alabama Department Environmental Management (ADEM) the Private MSW Landfill of the Year Award for 2012. This is the first ever type of award that was present by this State Agency. The facility employs 12 employees, some of whose responsibilities are shared by other sites. The site is managed by General Manager, Bonner Jones.
