Advanced Disposal Awarded City of Pelham Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Contract
Advanced Disposal Services, Inc., a regional integrated environmental services company, was awarded the City of Pelham, Ala. solid waste and recycling collection contract on Monday evening. The city selected Advanced Disposal following a competitive bid process where proposals were reviewed from five collection companies.
The contract includes the collection and removal of non-hazardous solid waste and recyclables for Pelham’s 8,341 homes, and all Pelham city facilities will be serviced at no additional fee. All new equipment including trucks and carts will be used to service the city of Pelham beginning Oct. 1.
“This is a huge win for us at Advanced Disposal,” said Alabama and Gulf Coast Area President George Sides. “This contract is especially important since several of our management team members live in Pelham, and they wanted nothing more than to service their own neighbors. We are especially excited to increase the number of recyclables for residents and hope to see those new, extra-large 64-gallon carts filled with recyclable items.”
Curbside garbage service will be provided once per week from the 95-gallon carts, and curbside recycling pickup will be once every other week from the 64-gallon carts. Advanced Disposal will also be increasing heavy bulk waste pickup to twice per year in April and October. Dates for bulk items collection are to be determined, and the schedule will be communicated appropriately. All waste will be disposed of in a properly permitted Class C landfill owned and operated by Shelby County. No-pickup holidays are New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
