Advanced Disposal, an environmental services company, has hired 25-year industry veteran Eric VanHouten as general manager for the company’s Detroit residential facility.

VanHouten will oversee all operations for the new contract and facility, as the company prepares to begin servicing Detroit residents residing west of Woodward and north of I-94 the week of June 2. The facility, located at 12255 Southfield Rd., will operate 56 new CNG trucks servicing about 125,000 Detroit residents with environmentally friendly waste collection.

“The City of Detroit is a milestone contract for us,” said Dave Lavender, regional vice president for Advanced Disposal. “We wanted a leader with a proven track record in our industry and a true commitment to service, and we found that in Eric.”

Prior to joining Advanced Disposal, VanHouten served as general manager for another waste company in Elyria, Ohio. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business administration from Central Michigan University.
