Advanced Disposal, an integrated environmental services company, recently opened its eighth Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station at its hauling facility located at 559 Progress Dr. in Hartland, Wis. Eleven of the company’s trucks will fill up at the station every night and keep the greater Waukesha County community cleaner and greener every day. This number will increase as the company replaces retiring diesel trucks once their useful life has expired.
“We are on track to meet our goal to increase our CNG fleet to 15 percent by the end of 2015,” said Advanced Disposal CEO Richard Burke. “Our commitment to CNG is a significant one we’ve made to keep our fleet running cleaner and to creating a more sustainable Earth for future generations. This cleaner fuel source lowers our company’s carbon footprint, reduces costs of operations and ultimately helps us achieve our goals of being good stewards of the environment while enhancing stakeholder returns.”
The Hartland CNG station was a $1.7 million investment. About 11 percent of Advanced Disposal’s collection routes in the Hartland area run on CNG, and customers will notice the logo on the trucks reads “powered by CNG.” A CNG truck costs between $30,000 and $40,000 more than a comparable diesel truck.
CNG is an alternative fuel used for internal combustion engines. It generates low hydrocarbon emissions and is considered a clean source of energy. Use of natural gas can reduce greenhouse gas emissions for heavy-duty trucks, when compared to diesel powered vehicles, by 23 percent, according to the America Natural Gas Vehicles for America.
