Resident Commends Good Samaritans for Caring Enough to Stop and Investigate Strange Smell
ANN ARBOR, Mich.
Two Advanced Disposal drivers prevented a home in Pinckney, Mich., from burning down Thursday while the family was away. Tim Hampton and Mark Garrison extinguished a fire caused by an extension cord to Christmas lights under the house’s porch.
Hampton was at a neighbor’s house picking up the trash and smelled something odd coming from the home next door. Upon further investigation, he found a fire under the porch. He quickly ran to his truck for his fire extinguisher. Garrison was nearby and assisted. Together the men put the fire out and called 911.
“This proves how much they care about their customers, because he could have easily thought that smell was odd and moved along about his day,” said the homeowner. “However, he knew something wasn’t right and wasn’t about to continue without investigating. If it wasn’t for these gentlemen, I could have come home from dropping my child off at school to NO home.”
“While we provide quality garbage and recycling services for the communities we serve, we also make the effort to be watchful eyes and ears for something that may be out of the ordinary,” said Kelly Rooney, Advanced Disposal’s district manager. “We are thankful that Tim and Mark were in the right place at the right time to be the Good Samaritans that we all hope will be there in the event we ourselves need help.”
