Cumberland County Landfill is an MSW landfill that was started in the 1970s and most recently received its latest expansion in 2007. The facility is permitted by the Department of Environmental Protection to accept 2500 tons per day average and 2950 tons in any single day. The facility currently accepts 2300 tons per day average. Municipal Solid Waste, Construction and Demolition Debris, Municipal and Industrial Sewage Sludges, asbestos, and residual wastes are received for disposal. The facility currently utilizes tipper service to assist with unloading of waste trailers. Cumberland County Landfill has a 6,400 kilowatt electrical generation plant that puts power out to the local electric grid – powering approximately 5,000 homes daily. At current volumes the facility has airspace to 2024.
The facility is included in several County Solid Waste Plans, and has contracts with residual waste generators both in PA and surrounding states and accepts waste from Advanced Disposal subsidiaries and third party companies.
