WASTE COLLECTION & RECYCLING GUIDELINES FOR Kewaunee, WI

Guidelines for Curbside Garbage Service

Curbside garbage service

  • Pickup every Tuesday or Wednesday depending on location in Kewaunee.
  • Garbage must be placed curbside the night before collection day, or prior to 6 a.m. on the scheduled day of collection.
  • Place garbage in cans or clear/transparent plastic bags no larger than 30 gallons
  • Each can or bag should  display the appropriate city acquired orange garbage sticker (purchased elsewhere)
  • Containers are not to exceed 50 lbs. each
  • There is no limit to the amount of refuse you place at the curb, as long as it is properly prepared and an orange “KEWAUNEE” sticker is properly attached to each bag.
  • Multiple garbage bags placed into a container that does not comply with the above guideline MUST HAVE A STICKER AFFIXED TO EACH BAG, REGARDLESS OF THE BAG SIZE.
  • Kitchen garbage bags (typically 11 to13 gallons in size) may be placed inside of a larger plastic bag not exceeding 33-gallons in size and when sealed or tied, only one garbage sticker would be required.
  • Items NOT accepted for pickup include: hazardous waste material as defined by federal and state law, white goods, electronics, Freon items (unless the refrigerant has been removed by a certified technician and is properly stickered as such) yard waste, bulky items, all appliances, tires, and vehicle batteries.

Curbside recycling service - container not provided, must be separated from trash

  • Pickup every Tuesday or Wednesday depending on location in Kewaunee.
  • Recyclables must be placed curbside the night before, or prior to 6 a.m. on the scheduled day of collection.
  • Items accepted for pickup include: Bi-metal and aluminum cans, clear, green brown container glass, plastics #1 & #2, corrugated cardboard, newsprint and magazines.

Holiday Schedule

There will be no pickup on the following holidays: 
New Year’s Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day

Routes will be pushed back by one day following a holiday
If the holiday falls on a week day (Monday – Friday), routes will be pushed back by one day following a holiday. For example, if Christmas Day is Tuesday and your normal service day is Wednesday, you will be serviced on Thursday. Customers who are normally serviced on Friday of that week will be serviced on Saturday.
